About Digger Specialty

From mod.io

Adds a Digging specialty under Mason. Shovels train it: less calories, bigger scoops, five talents, and Digger-only recipes that sift dirt into sand and clay and crushed rock into sand. Server-side, fully configurable.

Digging is a new tier-1 Mason specialty that sits next to Mining. Early game it turns the shovel into a real skill; late game it earns its keep with products only a Digger can make. Everything is added beside vanilla rather than taken from it: no vanilla talent, module or recipe goes dead, and everyone else digs exactly as before.

Core Features

Shovels Train Digging

  • Every block dug gives XP (0.1 per block, capped per swing so area-of-effect shovels don't level 9x faster)
  • Calorie cost drops with level: 20% off at level 1, half at level 7
  • Scoop capacity increases per level:
    • Wooden shovel: 2 dirt/slot (level 1) → 3 (level 7)
    • Iron shovel: 4 → 7
    • Modern shovel: 12 → 21

New Digger-Only Recipes

Level 2: Sift Sand

  • Recipe: 3 Dirt → 1 Sand at a Rocker Box
  • Turns unlimited dirt into glass and concrete input

Level 4: Wash Clay

  • Recipe: 4 Dirt → 1 Clay at a Screening Machine
  • Only source of clay besides finite deposits—Diggers become the potter's supplier

Level 6: Screen Fill

  • Recipe: 6 Crushed Rock (any type) → 2 Sand at a Sensor Based Belt Sorter
  • Converts mining waste into glass and concrete input

Talents

Level 3 Pick (choose one):

  • Light Hands — Shovel calories cost -20%
  • Deep Scoop — Scoop capacity ×1.5

Level 6 Pick (choose one):

  • Soil Sense — 10% chance to dig +1 item per block
  • Clean Fill — Waste and tailings dig for half calories and double XP
  • Fine Sifting — Sift recipes are 40% faster and 15% cheaper

Earthworks Scaling

Dirt Ramp, Wheelbarrow, and Adobe get cheaper with Digging level but stay craftable by anyone at normal price:

  • Costs scale 20% off at level 1 → 50% off at level 7
  • Perfect for Diggers to supply tier-1 construction materials

Adobe Gate (optional): Adobe requires Digging 1 by default, so tier-1 walls need both a Logger (wood) and a Digger (labor). Can be disabled in config.

AOETools Integration

When AOETools is installed, a Digger's area-of-effect shovels dig a wider area:

  • Level 4-6: Extra ring (3×3 → 5×5)
  • Level 7: Extra 2 rings (7×7)
  • Other players' AOE shovels are unchanged

Configuration

Edit Mods/UserCode/Digger/DiggerConfig.cfg (created with defaults on first boot):

All defaults are configurable. Restart the server after changes.

Installation

  1. Extract the zip into your server's Mods folder
  2. Creates Mods/UserCode/Digger/ and Mods/UserCode/Tools/ShovelItem.override.cs
  3. That override file is identical to what AOETools ships—installing both is safe
  4. No other dependencies required

Features

✅ Client Bundle Included — Skill and all talent icons ship in a small .unity3d file; nothing to install on the client

✅ Fully Configurable — Every number lives in .cfg: XP rates, calorie curves, sift ratios, labor/time costs, earthworks scaling, Adobe gate

✅ Non-Destructive — No vanilla recipes moved, no talents silenced, no modules stranded. Everyone else digs exactly as before

✅ Plays Well With Others — Works with or without AOETools; can be removed without breaking running worlds
