Dynamic Settlements is a multiplayer compatible expansive survival, crafting, and settlement overhaul for Necesse. It makes the early game progression slower and harder, then gradually opens into deeper settlement building, automation, defence, and underground expansions.

Early progression has been completely reworked. I'll keep the descriptions short so as not to spoil the experience. The entire mod can be played without a wiki by following the custom in-game story objectives and journal entries.

Crafting is more involved, with new primitive tools in the early game, new processing steps, workstation requirements, and progression systems that make advancing feel more deliberate. The manual crafting system has been nerfed in favour of utilizing the new revamped settler crafting automation.

Settlements have also been expanded significantly. New specialist settlers, deeper job systems, improved storage management, automated crafting, and more advanced production options give you much more control over how your settlement develops.

Builders can construct from reusable Blueprints, repair damaged structures, and help maintain your settlement over time. Weather and hostile creatures can both damage your buildings, so planning and maintenance matter more.

Defence has been reworked as well. Guards can be assigned different duties, settlements can respond to attacks more intelligently, and walls are no longer something you can always rely on without support.

Also, cave settlements! Your settlement can expand underground, with settlers living, working, hauling, defending, and travelling between connected surface and cave levels. You can choose to build your settlement entirely on the surface, underground, or anything in between.

There are also many smaller systems and quality-of-life changes throughout the mod, including farming changes, new tools, new automation options, new hazards, and various ways to inspect, manage, and improve your settlement.

The goal is to make progression feel more rewarding and settlements feel much more alive, useful, and worth investing in.

Important Notes!!!

Important Note 1) This mod is not compatible with the Settlement Builders mod! It has in fact all of the Settlement Builders features already in it, so there is no reason to install both of them together anyway.

Important Note 2) Since this is a full game overhaul it is highly recommended to play it with brand new worlds and characters. Although there is nothing stopping you from playing with an existing world or character, doing so will seriously detract from the intended experience.

Important Note 3) This mod is reasonably stable for an early release but still may have bugs that are currently under test. I'm not currently aware of any game-breaking or world-corrupting bugs, but there are certainly issues to be ironed out. Should you encounter any bugs in your playthroughs I would be very grateful if you could make a bug report in my github issues page for the mod at this link: https://github.com/opusliews/Necesse-DynamicSettlementsMod/issues

Important Note 4) This mod has a sizeable codebase and patches a number of vanilla systems. Most unrelated mods should work fine, but compatibility issues are possible, especially with other mods that also heavily modify the same systems. If you found any compatibility problems with other mods, please post them on the same github link above. I cannot promise compatibility with every mod or that every conflict will be fixable, but I will do my best to investigate them when time allows.

Patch notes: 1.0.0: First release -- 1.0.1: Updated forge objective description -- 1.0.2: Fixed bug with flowers unable to be collected by the crude axe -- 1.0.3: Fixed: - Issue with starving settlers running for their lives as if being literally attacked by hunger damage. Kinda funny though, ngl. - Removed old vanilla forge automation - Added new journal entry for help with forge automation -- 1.0.4: - Clay pit firing, charcoal pit burning, and firing raw clay in the forge now take a fixed 16 minutes (one default day/night cycle), regardless of custom world day/night lengths. - Manual crafting at upgraded Workstations, Anvils and Alchemy Tables is twice as fast per tier (2s / 1s / 0.5s / 0.25s); Carpenter Benches skip the second tier (2s / 0.5s / 0.25s). Settler crafting speeds are unchanged. -- 1.0.5: Added compatibility with Manaworks Forges. Mana-powered Forges can now be linked to Anvils and used to process Dynamic Settlements recipes, both manually and through settler automation. Organic materials can be automatically pulled from linked input chests to fuel connected mana generators, without requiring generators to be linked manually. Mana Forges also support Anvil Forge-Requiring Recipes (FRRs), even when not actively processing items.

Vanilla settlement workstation automation is disabled for Mana Forges; instead, they use Dynamic Settlements' Anvil linking and Crafting Task Boards, just like regular Forges. -- 1.0.6: - Fixed bug with gated dungeon stairs - Added new early storage alternative
