This mod lets you change a settlers traits and add traits until the (vanilla) maximum.
Traits are separated by vanilla in two categories, Major (called Bonus in vanilla) and Minor. Major traits are the ones with the star icon.
The maximum number of traits on a single settler is 2 Major and 5 Minor. This is a vanilla limit and i think thats a fair limit so i left it in.
You can change all except a very few protected ones, like the Elder trait for example (as i dont know if removing these breaks something). You also cant give these traits to other settlers either (i think the only ones a normal player sees is Elder, Witch and Pawnbroker. Theres also a dev trait :D)
There are "softlocked" traits like Potionseller but i didnt restrict these because... why bother?
Changing traits is not something you can do freely at will. Mainly because it would be ridiculously overpowered. To counteract this a trait change or adding traits costs coins. A lot of them. Coin cost depends on the total number of traits on a settler and if its a major or a minor trait (majors cost twice as much). Modded traits should work without issues, at least the ones i had from other mods did.
The coin cost is set pretty high on purpose to make this something you can work on in late / endgame if you want to really kit them out or earlier, if you push your base to generating a ton of coins or are effective at farming. The first ones are relatively cheap so if you only need like 1 or 2 traits i would suggest either finding one with them or finding a settler with as little traits as possible to keep costs low.
After running it once you will find a config file in C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Necesse\mods\TraitChanger where you can change the coin cost multiplier (Default 0.5).
FOR LINUX USERS: apparently there is an issue with parsing config files when they contain comment tags. if you want to configure something while using linux then just remove the full comment statement explaining the functions. that should work.
that also means finding settlers with a few of the right traits for your cause is still an achievement and you will still be happy because that might save you a lot of coins.
Mainly i wanted a way to adjust settlers that have been with me for a long time to make them better. Or when i like the look of a certain settler then i can work around that as well.
And i wanted to have a late game coin sink thats useful or at least interesting :D
This also means if you find the perfect settler but he has the orderly trait you can now just change it into something else (for the fee).
How it works is, just go into your settlement menu and select the Trait Changer Tab at the bottom right. Select the Settler you want to adjust, pick either an existing trait to change or add a new trait, select the trait you want and pay the fee.
The mod checks your inventory and your coin pouch. Im not sure how to easily check the settlement storage for coins from the settlement menu (even vanillas base expansion doesnt do it so its probably difficult or annoying)
The mod should work on servers but will very likely be needed on both, server and client.
If you find any bugs or if it doesnt work on a server please let me know.
