Simple Overhaul: Blades and Spears (SOBS)

How often have you found yourself thinking that knives do too little damage, are non-durable, and feel like the weakest weapons in the game? Or maybe you're tired of the endless making Crafted Spears that break quickly and wish that attaching a weapon to a spear made real sense? Then... you have to try out this mod!

Short information: - Stab Short Blades can land critical hits now (yes, they couldn't do that before), deal a bit more damage and become more durable. - Crafted Spear will become slightly weaker, but Spears with attached weapons become more effective and durable. In addition, attaching a weapon to a spear will require less duct tape, or can be attached with scotch tape.

For PZ 41.78+, safe to add/remove in current save game, but changes will affect new found/crafted items.

Load SOBS mod after (below) all supported mods to make it work correctly!

Detailed information: Short Blades: In vanilla Zomboid Stab Short Blade weapons can't land a critical strike with attacks. Instead of it critical strike chance increasing the chance of Jaw Stab (instant kill in jaw). But when you're in situation when more than one zombie targeting you at the moment, Jaw stab is disabled. This means you have zero benefit from critical chance and critical multiplier at all.

But with this mod you can land critical hits!

Short Blade tiers: - High: high damage, 30% Crit Hit chance, 60% Jaw Stab chance. Weapons: Hunting Knife, Ice Pick - Medium: medium damage, 20% Crit Hit chance, 40% Jaw Stab chance. Weapons: Kitchen Knife, Screwdriver, Hand Fork, Bread Knife, Trowel. - Low: low damage, 10% Crit Hit chance, 20% Jaw Stab chance. Weapons: Scissors, Letter Opener, Scalpel, Stake, Smashed Bottle, Stone Knife. - Improvised: very low damage, can't critically hit, 0% Jaw Stab chance, no Crit Damage Multiplier. Weapons: Spoon, Fork, Butter Knife, Pen, Pencil. More changes: - +3% Crit Chance per level of Short Blade skill for Stab Short Blade weapons (similar to other weapons). - Crit Dmg Multiplier for all stab weapons changed to x2 - Damage adjusted, durability increased. - Stab Short Blade weapons have no more swing endurance reduction. - Swing Short Blade weapons such as Meat Cleaver and Hand Scythe adjusted and more durable.

Spears: Crafted Spear outperform Spears with attached weapons in vanilla Zomboid. Attaching weapons to spears quite costly and not worth it. Also Spears does not get any benefits from critical hit multiplier because critical hit chance increases chances to instantly kill zombie with animation or even simple swing.

- Crafted Spear changes: reduced damage and crit chance but increased durability and slightly reduced weight. - Attaching Short Blade to spear will cost 1/4 Duct Tape (instead of 2/4). Also you can use Scotch tape now. - Spears with attachment will use their stats: Damage: 0.6-1.2 + 50% of attachment Crit Chance: 1/4 of attachment Condition: 100% of attachment, but not less than 5 Condition lower chance: 100% of attachment, but not less than 6 Attack Speed: 85-95% depending on attachment - Crafting Spears no longer affected by Carpentry. - Recipes for attach weapons fixed: now you can get best condition if combine good weapon and spear together. - Removing attachment from spear will give you attached weapon with same condition. - Repairing now transfers repair stacks.
