Bluegrass Blades [B42]

Knives for Kentucky, 1993. This mod adds 79 knife variants in twelve families, plus four forgeable blades. The older families use the vanilla models with new textures; Kukri, Karambit, Balisong, Switchblade, Tanto, Arkansas Toothpick, Meat Cleaver and Throwing Knife have their own 3D models. Stats sit close to the vanilla knives they are based on.

What's in it

  • Bowie Knife (based on the Hunting Knife)
  • Fillet Knife
  • Lockback Folding Knife
  • Trapper Pocketknife (slip-joint)
  • Balisong (own model since 1.1)
  • Kukri (new in 1.1, own model, based on the Machete: a bit lighter, a bit shorter reach)
  • Karambit (new in 1.1, own model, hooked blade with a finger ring, held in reverse grip since 1.2)
  • Switchblade, Tanto Knife, Arkansas Toothpick, Meat Cleaver (new in 1.2, own models)
  • Throwing Knife (new in 1.2): right-click with one in your inventory to throw it at a zombie within 7 steps. Aiming raises the hit chance. Pick the knife up again afterwards.

Extras (1.2)

  • Boot Knife Sheath: worn at the ankle, adds a hotbar slot for one knife. Loot or sew it (Tailoring 2).
  • Honing Kit: works like a whetstone and lasts twice as long.
  • Grade matters for the edge: Military blades dull at half the speed, Sporting a bit slower, Knockoffs faster.
  • Engrave a name on any Bluegrass knife (right-click, needs a screwdriver or a sharp knife).
  • Collector boxes in antique and pawn shops: open one for a rare knife and its certificate.

How the variants work

Each knife has three parts:

  • Grade sets the stats: Military, Sporting, Handmade, Knockoff (best to worst). Knockoffs are cheap and wear out quickly.
  • Handle changes looks and rarity only: Walnut, Bone, Leather, Polymer, Ivory.
  • Finish is looks and rarity only: Satin, Blued, Black Oxide, Rusted, Temper Color, Damascus.

Ivory handles are rare and turn up in gun, camping, antique and pawn shops. Temper Color is rare and Damascus is very rare.

Loot and crafting

Knives spawn where vanilla knives do: army surplus, gun and camping stores, hunting and fishing spots, pawn shops, antiques, garages and junk crates. Military grade comes from army loot, Knockoffs from cheap and junk loot.

With Blacksmithing you can forge Fillet, Bowie, Damascus Bowie and Kukri blades and assemble them into Handmade knives. Researching a looted knife of the same type can teach you its forge recipe. Damascus needs Blacksmithing 8.

Compatibility

  • Built for Project Zomboid 42.21. Other versions are not tested.
  • Single player tested. Coop and multiplayer have not been tested yet.
  • New items only. No vanilla items are changed or removed.
