Build Support: B41.78 and B42.20–42.22 • SP / MP Host / Dedicated

Your survivor changes with the way you play.

Dynamic Traits and Expanded Moodles (DTEM) expands Project Zomboid with dynamic traits, new and rebalanced traits, profession changes, addictions, long-term conditions, expanded moodle effects and additional survival mechanics.

Traits are no longer only permanent choices made at character creation. Skills, Fitness, Strength, weight, activity, habits, mood, injuries and long-term behavior can gradually change who your survivor becomes.

Main Features

  • Dynamic Traits — gain or lose traits as your character develops.
  • New & Rebalanced Traits — additional traits plus revised behavior for selected vanilla traits.
  • Profession Rebalance — adjusted costs, skills, recipes, knowledge and profession-specific bonuses.
  • Physical & Skill Progression — Fitness, Strength, weight, skills and activity influence character development.
  • Addictions & Long-Term Conditions — Smoker, Alcoholic, Addicted to Caffeine, Bloodlust, Anorexia, Melancholic, Nervous Wreck and more.
  • Expanded Moodles — new DTEM moodles and additional consequences for selected vanilla conditions.
  • Survival Mechanics — Overdose, allergies, wound/cold sickness, severe-encumbrance fractures, extreme-fatigue Pass Out and more.
  • Recipe & Knowledge Progression — selected recipes and knowledge can be learned through skills, study and profession paths.
  • Sandbox Options — disable or tune major DTEM systems without removing the rest of the mod.

DTEM is intended to make character development feel like a consequence of how your survivor actually lives rather than a fixed set of starting labels.

Build 42

DTEM has been extensively adapted for Build 42's changed traits, recipes, items, timed actions, fluid system, translations and multiplayer behavior.

Current B42 support includes:

  • Dynamic trait gain/loss and profession systems adapted to Build 42.
  • Build-aware profession recipes and knowledge.
  • Partial and interrupted food/drink consumption handled proportionally where applicable.
  • Prepared-food Wild Plants Allergy handling with allergen preservation through supported preparation and splitting.
  • Medication Allergy and Overdose integration.
  • Server-authoritative, Day-Length-independent sickness/recovery systems where required.
  • Progressive wound and severe-cold Food Sickness with dedicated Sandbox controls.
  • MP fixes for thirst traits, passive-skill progression, consumption effects and forced Pass Out.
  • B42.22 compatibility work for DTEM emote AnimSets, including dedicated-server/case-sensitive environments.
  • Player-only DTEM systems ignore detected NPC actors.
  • Reviewed localization coverage and current vanilla terminology where appropriate.

Important Sandbox Controls

  • Overdose and medication-related trait development.
  • Dynamic trait XP boosts and body-condition XP penalties.
  • Heavy Load fractures.
  • Pass Out from extreme fatigue.
  • Bloodlust Acquisition.
  • Sickness Severity.
  • Separate Wound and Cold Sickness Rate Multipliers — 0 disables that DTEM sickness source.

Default settings preserve DTEM's established gameplay style.

Required: Moodle Framework Load Moodle Framework before DTEM.

Adding or Removing DTEM Mid-Save

Always back up an existing save/server before changing mods.

Adding DTEM mid-save is supported.

On first load, DTEM reconstructs progression from the character's current profession, traits, skills and body condition where possible. Some dynamic traits may therefore change shortly after DTEM is enabled.

Removing DTEM from an established Build 42 save is currently not recommended.

DTEM traits stored on a character can prevent that character/world from loading after the mod is removed. Previous trait, XP, recipe and progression changes are also not automatically reverted.

See the Quick Guide above for more information.

Compatibility

Large trait or profession overhauls can conflict with DTEM because they modify many of the same systems.

Known incompatible trait overhauls:

Other trait mods may load alongside DTEM, but their effects can overlap, stack or counteract DTEM mechanics.
