Who were you before the world ended?

READ ME - DISCLAIMER
This mod is a WIP. as new features are introduces there is always a likelihood you might lose your saves or they might become corrupted. As much as is possible i will attempt to avoid this from happening but as I work on it, it cannot be guaranteed currently.

Project Zomboid tells you how you died. This Is Your Life gives you a life worth remembering first.

This Is Your Life replaces vanilla character creation with a fully themed, in-world experience. Choose your hometown from a scattered pile of postcards, find work in the Knox Knews classifieds, complete a personnel assessment, and file your final pre-apocalypse identification record.

These choices are more than presentation. Your hometown determines where you begin, what part of Kentucky you already know, and the unique Origin trait you carry into the apocalypse. Your profession and traits retain their normal Build 42 benefits, costs, exclusions, recipes, and skill bonuses beneath the new presentation.

A New Character-Creation Experience

 • Postcard Origins — Pick up, inspect, and flip through postcards from eleven Kentucky communities across multiple animated pages.
 • Knox Knews Job Listings — Browse every supported profession through a full newspaper spread. Circle a vacancy, inspect its skills, traits, recipes, and points, then accept the job.
 • Personnel Assessment — Balance positive and negative traits through a custom folder-style assessment that preserves vanilla trait costs, exclusions, tooltips, and point balancing. File and reload complete profession-and-trait builds for future characters.
 • Kentucky Identification Record — Create your name, body, voice, hair, clothing, and final appearance through a complete DMV-inspired replacement for the vanilla appearance screen.
 • Responsive Presentation — Every custom screen scales with the game window and resolution.

Your Hometown Matters

Every origin:

 • Spawns your character in the selected town.
 • When Origin Traits are enabled, reveals local map knowledge your character would reasonably possess.
 • When Origin Traits are enabled, grants an Origin: Town trait visible on the character sheet.
 • When Origin Traits are enabled, causes stress to build 10% more slowly while you are back on familiar home ground.
 • When Origin Traits are enabled, provides one additional bonus reflecting the character of that community.

Available Origins

 • Riverside — +10% Fishing XP
 • Muldraugh — +10% Mechanics XP
 • West Point — +10% Foraging XP
 • Rosewood — Unhappiness builds 12.5% more slowly
 • Dixie — +10% Cooking XP
 • Ekron — +10% Blacksmithing XP
 • Fallas Lake — +10% Aiming XP
 • Irvington — +10% Agriculture XP
 • Louisville — +10% Sprinting XP
 • Brandenburg — +10% Carpentry XP
 • Echo Creek — +10% Reloading XP

Every origin uses either its current Build 42 spawn table or a pool of verified local starting locations. Scripted-start towns use the same curated player locations when the event is disabled, without spawning its additional story elements.

Contributors
A big thank you to all the community members who have lent a helping hand to flesh out the mod in all areas. Special thanks to.

This Is Your Voice

This Is Your Voice is an optional roleplay system that gives your survivor contextual internal thoughts and spoken reactions as they interact with the world.

Responses are shaped primarily by your survivor's personality, traits, and growing experience. The system reacts to combat pressure, zombie kills, injuries, skill gains, survival needs, weather, buildings, vehicles, looting, crafting, repairs, reading, wound treatment, and other tracked actions.

 • Personality-Driven Reactions — Cautious, practical, and aggressive survivors respond differently to the same experiences, with additional trait- and profession-sensitive lines where appropriate.
 • Varied Dialogue — Large dialogue banks, probability, cooldowns, repetition limits, and situational rules keep reactions from becoming constant or predictable.
 • Context Aware — Needs-based thoughts are suppressed during combat and immediate danger so reactions remain believable.
 • Client-Side in Multiplayer — Thoughts and spoken reactions are visible only to the player they belong to. They are not transmitted to other players and do not attract zombies.
 • Fully Optional — Disable the entire module through the sandbox settings, or toggle your own reactions during play with the configurable F9 key binding.

Scripted Events

In the latest patch we introduced our first scripted event for when the player spawn into the world.

Events

 • Spawn Event. I wont give too much away but just remember to try to put your grief to rest. take something to remember them by to help sooth. For lasting peace dig deep and check the shed for something that might help.
