Viewpoint - Advanced Throwables

Real throwing for Viewpoint's first and third person. Build 42. Updated for Viewpoint 0.1.6.

Fixes the bug where grenades and molotovs land at your feet in Viewpoint, and replaces the old isometric throw with a physical one.

Features

  • Throw where you look — the object leaves your hand along the crosshair, in first and third person (over-the-shoulder aim is parallax-corrected and follows Viewpoint's shoulder swap). Holding Viewpoint's free look keeps your aim where it was.
  • Hold to charge — quick tap for a short toss, full hold for a long throw. Overhand, underhand (Alt) and rolling (crouch).
  • Real flight — gravity, bounces off walls and floors, rolling, stairs, furniture, trees, zombies, players and vehicles. No more objects passing through walls.
  • Windows done right — open or broken windows let throws through, closed glass stops them unless the throw is hard enough to smash it, barricades always block.
  • Vanilla effects — pipe bombs, molotovs, aerosol bombs, smoke and noise makers explode, burn and smoke exactly like vanilla, including timer, sensor and remote versions. Molotovs still need a lighter.
  • 3D effects — explosions with a fireball, sparks, flying debris, a dust ring and a smoke plume that drifts with the wind; molotov bursts; smoke grenades that fill the area (coloured ones keep their colour); flashbangs that white out the screen of whoever sees them. Explosions and fires light up their surroundings. All drawn inside Viewpoint, no 2D sprites.
  • Fires and smoke you can see — Viewpoint 0.1.6 draws the game's flames itself; this mod adds the rising smoke over every fire and dense 3D smoke clouds over smoke squares that really hide what stands in them.
  • Throw anything — hold the Throw key (G) with any item in hand: bottles shatter, cans clatter, rocks thud, tools, weapons, even a bag with what is in it (server weight limit). Impacts make noise zombies come to investigate. Optional, conservative impact damage.
  • Modded grenades work automatically — anything built like a vanilla throwable is detected. A Lua API covers the rest.
  • Guns of Marz grenade launchers (M79 and the M203 underbarrel) — fire real grenades out of the muzzle, like a thrown grenade: they fly where the barrel points and drop with distance (raise the launcher to reach further), you see the round in flight in first and third person, and they explode on impact with the 3D effects. Their grenades use their real fuses. Works together with Viewpoint True Ballistics.
  • Aiming help — optional landing ring or faint arc while you prepare (Off / Simple / Full, the server can limit it).
  • Multiplayer — server-authoritative and validated (item ownership, speed, release point, rate). Your throw flies instantly on your screen and other players see the same path.

Controls

Grenades and other throwables: hold Attack, release to throw. Anything else (tools, weapons, bags): hold G. Underhand: hold Left Alt. Roll: crouch. Cancel: X. Rebind everything in Settings → Mods; turn off "Attack button throws grenades" there to throw grenades with G too. Pipe bombs go off when they land, as in vanilla (aerosol and smoke bombs have timers).

Server options

Sandbox page "Viewpoint Throwables": throw strength and speeds, charge time, underhand/rolling, momentum, impact damage (and player damage with PVP), zombie distraction, object throwing and weight limit, bounce, window breaking, validation, preview limit, cooldown, flashbang blinding and range, incendiary fire damage, debug.

Requirements

Load after Viewpoint. On first launch ZombieBuddy asks you to approve this mod's Java file. Servers do not need ZombieBuddy's Java: all server logic is plain Lua.
