Rafts, a pirate sail raft and small boats for Build 42 that you steer with WASD - alone or with friends aboard. Sunken treasure below, alligators and whirlpools around you. No vehicle physics, no dependencies.

Workshop ID: 3808228367 Mod ID: ZombitaRaft

What's in it

Makeshift Raft (crafted, 1 seat) - five logs lashed together. 6 storage, light enough to carry from lake to lake. Large Raft (crafted, 2 seats) - room for a passenger behind you. 10 storage.

  • + Storage crate (either raft): 4 planks, 8 nails and a hammer. 30 storage.
  • + Zombita sail (either raft): 1 sheet, 2 planks and 2 rope (or 4 sheet rope). A mast and the Zombita pirate flag - raise it and the wind carries you.

Canoe (found, 1 seat) - fast with a paddle, 20 storage, wears slowly. Rowboat (found, 2 seats) - oars built in, easy on stamina, 45 storage, very sturdy. Zombita Skiff (found rare, or built, 4 seats) - the motorboat. 40 storage, the toughest hull, runs on gasoline. Fast and loud. Build your own: craft a Wooden Skiff Hull (Carpentry 5) and an Outboard Motor (Mechanics 4, or find one in garages), then fit it with a wrench.

Crafting and spawns

  • Raft: 5 logs, 1 sheet, 3 rope, a saw (kept). Carpentry 2, Tailoring 1.
  • Large Raft: 8 logs, 2 sheets, 5 rope, a saw (kept). Carpentry 3, Tailoring 1.
  • Boats spawn moored along shorelines (10% of each 40x40 stretch of shore); 12% are Zombita Skiffs, the rest canoes and rowboats.

How it works

Getting on and off

  • Boat or raft in your inventory: right-click a water tile by the shore and choose Launch.
  • Walk up to a moored boat and press E (or right-click anywhere on it: Board).
  • E again (or right-click the shore) to step ashore. The boat stays moored where you left it.
  • On land: Push Into Water, or Pick Up and carry it (heavy boats: main inventory or a vehicle, never a bag).

Passengers

  • Walk up to someone riding a boat with a free seat and press E (or right-click: Climb Aboard). The driver steers; passengers ride along, fish and keep watch. E to step ashore.
  • Z changes seat: passengers move to a free seat, the driver hands the helm to a passenger. If the driver steps off, the next passenger takes the helm; if the boat sinks, everyone washes ashore.

Steering

  • WASD moves in screen directions, like walking; the boat turns to face where it's going. Shift = paddle hard (faster, louder, more tiring).
  • V opens the boat wheel: anchor, sail, engine, refuel, claim, step ashore. Shortcuts (Mod Options): N anchor, U sail, X engine, Z change seat (like a car).
  • Fight from the boat: V > Weapon Stance - stand up, aim and shoot or swing; the boat holds still. V or a move key to sit. Passengers too.
  • Moodles show the engine (running / off / out of fuel), the sail (raised / lowered / gale) and your paddle - hover for details.

Paddles The best paddle you carry counts: a canoe paddle is fastest and easiest; spades, shovels and planks work; bare hands are slow and tiring. Zombies hear the splashing.

The motor X starts it: about 3x paddling speed, Shift = full throttle. 8 L tank, refuel from a gas can. Loud.

The sail U raises it and the wind carries you downwind for free; paddle to steer across it. Lower it in a gale.

Wind and anchor Not paddling, the wind slowly drifts you. Drop the anchor to stay put - not in a gale.

Condition and repairs Vessels wear with time afloat, speed, wind and bumps. Below 50% they slow down, below 25% they leak, at 0% they break apart and you wash ashore. Repair with rope, logs, planks and nails, or duct tape.

Sunken treasure and deep-water fish (each can be switched off in the sandbox options)

  • People tried to escape by boat and didn't make it. Their chests lie in deep water all over the map.
  • A Water Scanner on a boat (electronics / fishing stores, or build one) pings and points the way, then marks the spot with a ring on the water.
  • Drop a Deep Line there and play the salvage minigame: stop at the right depth, hook, then haul keeping the rope tension in the green. Snap it and the boat takes a knock.
  • Inside: food, supplies, valuables, sometimes a gun - and always a letter or keepsake with its story.
  • Elsewhere in deep water the Deep Line hooks rare fish that fight: Silver Eel, Ghost Carp, Deepwater Pike, Golden Catfish.

What lurks in the water (each can be switched off)

  • Alligators stalk boats - more at night, in storms, when you're loud, bleeding, carrying meat, anchored or lingering. A shape circles you; when it charges: wait for it... then STRIKE (Space). One swing per charge. A paddle only shoves it off - spears, axes and guns kill.
  • Or dodge (turn hard as it charges), throw it meat, or outrun it.
  • Kill one and you may haul the body aboard: butcher it with a knife for meat, hide, teeth and bones. But the river remembers - the area goes quiet, then the others come back in packs.
  • Whirlpools open in deep water and pull hard - time power strokes (Space) as the ring closes to get out. Moodles warn you.
  • Getting out doesn't save you: they lurk by the shore, lunge at anyone near the water (a miss can drag you under) and snatch the odd zombie.
