Description
Take your friends out for a picnic date and watch the stars!
warning: picnic not included
Ad Astra replaces the boring old skybox with an exciting, dynamic night sky! Try and find the constellations, enjoy periodic comets and realistic meteor showers :3
What We've Got:
Stars!
Full custom night sky renderer with a galactic blob and procedural stars! Woooo
Constellations
Procedural (enough for me) constellations that rotate with the seasons! Extra little ones too, all for those cute night watching events :3
Planets
Planets on an epicycle model! Just like Ptolemy said!
Comets and Meteors!
Rare events to shake up your sky!
Mod Compatibility
DarkVision
Direct integration! Your eye adaptation drives the nighttime limiting magnitude — fully dark-adapted lets you see stars down to mag 8, while glancing at a torch washes them out just like it should. Step outside, give your eyes a moment, and the sky opens up :3
Config Lib
Soft integration. If Config Lib is installed, all of Ad Astra's user-facing settings (Bortle class, star count, milky way opacity, atmospheric scatter, etc.) appear in the in-game settings menu — no JSON editing required. Tweak Bortle class on the fly to see your sky brighten or darken in real time.
CoriaenderShaders
Explicit fix in the renderer to play nice with Coriaender's shadow math — sky billboards are flagged so Coriaender skips them, preventing the black-terrain artifact some skybox mods hit. Should just work.
Most graphics mods
Ad Astra renders into the standard projection pipeline, so things like Panini Projection, custom shaders, and HUD overlays generally work alongside it. If you find something that doesn't, ping me on Discord.
What we'll have!
- 0.2.X - Light effects and rendering touch ups! Done!
- 0.3.X - A full astronomical tech tree, from stone age to steel age!
- 0.4.X - multiblock astronomical structures
- 0.5.X - Ex Astris begins development :3c
