Animal Kinship

CBy Craditz

Animals recognize their feral kin, with simple taming for supported wildlife.

Description

Feral Kinship

Animals recognize their own kind, and supported wild animals can be tamed through PetAI. Matching your animal helps with taming. It does not make biting them polite.

Kinship and taming

Matching animals normally stop treating you as something to flee from or attack. Retaliation still applies if you attack them. Recognition follows your supported player model or a configured kinship override.

Anyone can use ordinary food to tame supported animals. Matching kin gain taming progress three times as quickly. A properly baked matching meat or vegetable cookie completes the tame; dough and partly baked cookies do not count.

Supported families

  • Bears, chickens, deer, foxes, gazelles, goats, hares, hyenas, pigs, raccoons, sheep, and wolves.

Fish recognition does not mean fish are included in the normal taming list.

Settings

Edit ModConfig/FeralKinship.json and restart the server or singleplayer world to apply changes.

  • AllowAdultTaming = true: allows taming adults.
  • AllowBabyTaming = false: allows taming babies when enabled. Both age switches can be enabled together.
  • EnabledTamingAnimals: all supported families are enabled by default. Remove a family to disable its taming, or use an empty list to disable all taming. The deer entry includes moose.

These settings control taming; kin recognition remains active.

After taming

Pets use PetAI commands including sit, lie, stay, follow, passive, neutral, protective, and aggressive. Tamed variants preserve features such as sex and antlers. A mortally wounded pet has a 24-hour rescue window rather than being deleted immediately.

For personalities, duties, talents, and expeditions, add Feral Kinship: Companions.

Requirements and compatibility

Requires PetAI 5.1.0 or later. PlayerModelLib and an animal player model are optional.

Kin recognition covers supported Animalica models and explicit aliases for other supported player-model packs. It does not automatically recognize every model in the large compatibility packs. Diet changes belong to Animalica Core, not this mod.
