Why?

I searched for "bacon" in the Vintage Story Mod Database and to my surprise (at time of creation), there were no results! I finally found my market!

So what exactly do we have here?

When you harvest pigs, you should now expect to see a decrease in red meat (which... why do pigs not drop pork?). In its place, you will now find bacon! It's right there in the name!

What can I do with it?

You eat it, duh.

No seriously, what does this mod add?

Fine...

• Raw Bacon from harvesting pigs
  • yup makes sense
• Cooked Bacon from fire pits or clay ovens
  • sure
• Crispy Bacon from leaving cooked bacon in an oven or over a fire for a little longer
  • well you gotta have that
• Cured Bacon from curing raw bacon in a barrel of salt. It can also be cooked like raw bacon, though without the crispiness
  • Seems pretty reasonable so far
• Smoked Bacon from smoking raw or cured bacon in the smoking rack from Butchering
  • mhmm
• Candied Bacon by baking raw bacon slathered in honey
  • sounds good actually
• Dry Cooked Bacon from hammering cooked bacon or squeezing cooked bacon in the fruit press and using a knife on the hunk of dry bacon that's left over. Also used to make Bacon Jam!
  • wait...
• Bacon-Wrapped Redmeat, Poultry, and Bushmeat from wrapping said meats in two strips of raw or cured bacon
  • ok, you have me again
• Bacon Grease also from squeezing cooked bacon in the fruit press
  • I mean... I guess?
• Congealed Bacon Grease Block from letting a bunch of grease congeal in a barrel for a couple days 
  • what?
• Booze Infused Bacon from soaking dry cooked bacon in a barrel of aqua vitae
  • now wait minute...
• Bacon Poultices for when you need to decide between snacking or desperately healing your grievous wounds
  • What are you even talking about
• Bacon Seeds & Crops from following a long-lost mythical recipe (aka the handbook) to grow actual bacon right out of the ground
  • oh comon now that's ridiculous

Ok, so what can I do with all this stuff?

• Stews & Stews:
  • More protien!
  • Bacon grease can be used as a soup base
• Pies
  • A whole freaking pie filled to the brim with bacon. Just imagine what that would be like lol
• Snacks
  • All bacon types can be eaten as a snack on the go
• Bacon Jam
  • Combine dry cooked bacon, onions, some fruit, and honey in a cooking pot
  • Keeps for almost as long as normal jam but gives you much more satiety
• Another source of Fat
  
  • You can solidify bacon grease into lumps of fat by hitting it with a hammer. That kindof sortof makes sense right?
• Bacon-Wrapped Meats
  • Add more saturation to your soups and stews with bacon-wrapped redmeat, poultry, and bushmeat
  • You get the saturation of the base protein and two strips of bacon in one item, making for some powerful cooking combinations
• Grow it
  • Legend has it, there are mythical seeds that can grow genuine bacon right out of the ground
  • They are prohibitively time consuming and expensive to make
  • The bacon crop is so robust that it can survive any environment and any season, but it grows extremely slowly

This sounds like a bunch of nonsense...

Oh yeah for sure, I have a very dumb sense of humor.

The Bacon Bacon Bacon handbook guide, item descriptions, and handbook recipes should get you through it without losing your sanity though!

So I want the bacon, but I don't want the weird meat crops, can you do something about that?

Ugh, I guess, if you don't like fun and whimsy, sure. I added a way to turn off the bacon farming system.

You can find the settings in the BaconBaconBaconConfig file in the ModConfig folder.

  • The butchering mod already slims down drops when field stripping livestock and increases returns when using the tiered butchering tables. Bacon follows these rules as you would expect
  • Smoking raw and cured bacon on the smoking racks works just like vanilla meats

  • Raw bacon can be used as an ingredient for Kebabs in the early game
• Sammiches 
  • Add cooked, cured, or smoked bacon to your sandwiches
