Bitterbrew

Description

Bitterbrew — Vintage Story 1.22.3

Coffee has arrived for 1.22.3 — and it just got a whole lot stronger.

Bitterbrew adds a complete, multi-stage coffee system to Vintage Story — from wild bushes to a steaming mug, with custom items, 3D models, shelf life mechanics, meaningful buffs, and full compatibility with Hydrate or Diedrate. The Espresso Update brings a new grinder block, an entirely new roast tier, three new drinks, and optional fruit latte variants through Expanded Foods and A Culinary Artillery.

Inspired by KritterBizkit's Vintage Coffee

🌿 Coffee Bushes

Coffee bushes spawn naturally in warm, wet climates and cycle through three visible growth stages: empty, flowering, and ripe. Harvest a ripe bush to collect Raw Coffee Beans and 1–2 Coffee Seeds as a bonus drop.

Coffee Seeds can be planted on soil, farmland, peat, or grass to grow your own bushes anywhere. Planted bushes follow the same growth cycle and temperature requirements as wild ones.

⛓️ The Full Processing Chain

Coffee in Bitterbrew demands patience and rewards it.

1. Drying Raw beans can't be roasted fresh from the bush. Seal any amount in a barrel and wait 24 in-game hours. They emerge as Green Coffee Beans.

2. Roasting Roast green beans in a firepit, oven, or Panda Hearth Baking Sheet to advance through four roast levels. Each additional roast produces a bolder flavour and stronger effects:

Green → Yellow (Light) → Brown (Medium) → Dark Brown (Dark) → Espresso

3. Grinding
Grind any roasted bean in the Coffee Grinder to produce the matching Coffee Grounds — Light, Medium, Dark Roast, or Espresso Roast.

4. 🛢️ Barrel Brewing (Cold Brew) Seal coffee grounds and water in a barrel for 24 in-game hours. The result is Cold Brew at the matching roast level — stable, drinkable immediately, no heating required. (Light, Medium, and Dark Roast only — Espresso does not produce a Cold Brew.)

5. 🏺 Coffeepot Brewing (Hot Coffee) The clay Coffeepot brews directly over a Firepit with a visible cooking cycle. Add water to the liquid slot, grounds to the grounds slot, and wait for the progress bar. The result is Hot Coffee at the matching roast — stronger buffs than cold brew.

6. ♨️ Reheating Cold Brew Pour Cold Brew into a Coffeepot on a lit Firepit and run the same cooking cycle to convert it to Hot Coffee with no grounds needed.

🌡️ Hot vs. Cold

Hot Coffee provides the strongest buffs but cools back to Cold Brew after 2 in-game hours if left undrunk. Plan your expeditions accordingly.

Hot Espresso, the Americano, Latte, and all fruit latte variants do not follow the hot/cold cycle — see their individual sections below.

⚡ Buffs

All drinks apply three simultaneous effects: movement speed, slowed hunger drain, and passive warmth.

<table> <thead> <tr> <th>Drink</th> <th>Duration</th> <th>Warmth</th> <th>Hunger</th> <th>Speed</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td>🔥 Hot Coffee &mdash; Light</td> <td>5 min</td> <td>+3&deg;/s</td> <td>50% slower</td> <td>+10%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>🔥 Hot Coffee &mdash; Medium</td> <td>4 min</td> <td>+3&deg;/s</td> <td>40% slower</td> <td>+7%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>🔥 Hot Coffee &mdash; Dark</td> <td>3 min</td> <td>+2&deg;/s</td> <td>30% slower</td> <td>+5%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>🧊 Cold Brew &mdash; Light</td> <td>2 min</td> <td>+2&deg;/s</td> <td>20% slower</td> <td>+3%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>🧊 Cold Brew &mdash; Medium</td> <td>1.5 min</td> <td>+1&deg;/s</td> <td>15% slower</td> <td>+2%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>🧊 Cold Brew &mdash; Dark</td> <td>1 min</td> <td>+1&deg;/s</td> <td>10% slower</td> <td>+1%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>☠️ Hot Espresso&nbsp;(&minus;4 HP)</td> <td>10 min</td> <td>+6&deg;/s</td> <td>75% slower</td> <td>+20%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>🧊 Americano</td> <td>10 min</td> <td>+6&deg;/s</td> <td>75% slower</td> <td>+20%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>🥛 Latte</td> <td>20 min</td> <td>+12&deg;/s</td> <td>87.5% slower</td> <td>+40%</td> </tr> <tr> <td>🍓 Fruit Latte&nbsp;(&times;26 variants)</td> <td>30 min</td> <td>+18&deg;/s</td> <td>93.75% slower</td> <td>+60%</td> </tr> </tbody> </table>

🕰️ Shelf Life

All coffee items spoil over time. Lighter roasts perish faster &mdash; a balance against their stronger effects.

Beans

  • Raw Beans &mdash; 48 game-hours
  • Green Beans &mdash; 2,160 game-hours
  • All Roasted Beans &mdash; 4,320 game-hours

Grounds &mdash; 96 / 144 / 192 / 192 game-hours (Light / Medium / Dark / Espresso)

Cold Brew &mdash; 96 / 168 / 240 game-hours (Light / Medium / Dark)

Hot Coffee does not rot &mdash; it cools to Cold Brew after 2 game-hours.

Hot Espresso does not cool to Cold Brew &mdash; it perishes to rot after ~24 game-hours if undrunk.

Americano &mdash; ~96 game-hours

Latte / Fruit Lattes &mdash; ~72 game-hours (contains milk)
