Have a Smoke

BBy BlindCaesar

Grow tobacco, cure the leaves, roll your own, and take a long draw while the temporal storm passes.

Have a Smoke

Description

Have A Smoke adds a full tobacco pipeline to Vintage Story. From a wild plant found deep in warm forests to a hand-rolled cigar smoked draw by draw. Has custom plant models (please do not laugh), a proper curing-and-rolling chain (i.e. dry leaves and craft in inventory), and smoke that actually rises from the ember (I mention this because it took SO LONG to figure out how to do this).

Tobacco Farming

<ul class="[li_&amp;]:mb-0 [li_&amp;]:mt-1 [li_&amp;]:gap-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc flex flex-col gap-1 pl-8 mb-3">
  • A fully modeled 8-stage tobacco crop from a tiny seedling rosette to a tall bare-stalked plant crowned with broad drooping leaves, green buds at stage 7, and a pink terminal bloom at stage 8 — all wind-animated.
  • Wild tobacco spawns in clusters in warm, wet forests (12–27°C, decent rainfall, under and around trees). Breaking any wild plant always yields seeds, so a single find starts your plantation.
  • Farm it like any vanilla crop: potassium-hungry, roughly 1.65 months to mature. Mature plants drop wet leaves and seeds.
  • Leaf Curing &amp; Processing

    <ul class="[li_&amp;]:mb-0 [li_&amp;]:mt-1 [li_&amp;]:gap-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc flex flex-col gap-1 pl-8 mb-3">
  • Fresh-picked wet leaves cure into dry leaves in about 5 in-game days. No special block needed — they cure even sitting in a chest. But don't forget them entirely: wet leaves rot after ~10 days, so pick them and let them dry.
  • Grind dry leaves in a quern to get shredded tobacco (1 leaf → 2 shreds). Dried leaves and shreds keep forever.
  • Leaves, shreds, and seeds are all ground-storable (sort of).
  • Rolling

    Lighting and Smoke:

    <ul class="[li_&amp;]:mb-0 [li_&amp;]:mt-1 [li_&amp;]:gap-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ul]:pb-1 [&amp;:not(:last-child)_ol]:pb-1 list-disc flex flex-col gap-1 pl-8 mb-3">
  • Light up cigars/cigarettes by aiming at an open flame and right clicking (i.e. torch, firepit, etc.) or having a flint in your offhand and right clicking.
  • Cigarettes have 4 draws, Cigars have 8.
  • Each draw grants a temporal stability boost.
  • When the last draw is done, the cigar/cigarette breaks.
  • Future Plans:

    • Add in special wrappers/fillings for cigars/cigarettes to enhance effects (i.e. curing shredded tobacco in whiskey, etc.)
    • Humidors/storage solutions
    • Face props
    • Integration with other mods (i.e. actually allowing the Nicotiana alata flower to be turned into tea with Steep and Brew)

    Compatability:

    Should have no issues with other mods, tried to keep all the processes as isolated as possible to limit potential conflicts. As always, if there's any issues report them to me!
