IRDP's Wet Crops Mod

A simple mod that adds a number of new crops to the game, thematically-connected by being very moisture-dependent plants (although this has no effect on their moisture use, as this is just a content mod). Although this mod was originally developed with MiraLeaps' Paddy Fields in mind, it functions normally without it (and the current compatibility is a bit jank, I'll admit).

<span style="color: #18a085;">CROPS:</span>

• <span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;">African Rice (Oryza glaberrima) - K - a variant of rice with somewhat lower yields and nutrient use. Otherwise, very similar to it's close relative in the vanilla (asian) rice.

• <span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;">Wild Rice (Zizania sp.) - K - a hardier, taller rice, it isn't as satiating as the other varieties. Still, it consumes comparitively little from the soil and can survive in far colder climates than Oryza rices.</span></span>
• <span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;">Taro (Colocasia esculenta) - N - a warm-climate root vegetable from South-Southeast Asia with a now very wide distribution, taro crops offer two food items; the corms (which can be processed similar to cassava), and the stems (which act like any old vegetable).</span></span>
• <span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;">Watercress (Nasturtium officinale) -&nbsp;N - Small and fast-growing, watercress is a heat-sensitive crop that is best raised in temperate climates and away from Summer (or with some way to alleviate the heat...). A good supplement, in many cases, though simply not filling or productive enough to work as a mainstay crop generally.</span></span>
• <span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;">Water</span></span><span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;"> Spinach/Kangkung&nbsp;(Ipomoea aquatica) -&nbsp;N&nbsp;- A tropical leafy green, kangkung grows quickly but is very sensitive to cold and isn't particularly productive. Fills a similar niche to watercress, just for when the weather is toastier.</span></span>
• <span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;">Water Chestnut (Eleocharis dulcis) -&nbsp;K - Found in warmer climates, the chinese water chestnut is a good-yielding vegetable crop, though it is very cold-sensitive and takes relatively long to mature.</span></span>
• <span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;">Wasabi (Eutrema japonicum) -&nbsp;N&nbsp;- A rare plant with a strong flavour, wasabi is difficult to find and grow but provides both vegetables in the form of its stems, as well as a spice from its rhizomes. Shavings of wasabi root can be added to stews and soups, adding not only some satiation but also healing to the meal.</span></span>

<span style="color: #f1c40f;">OTHER PLANTS:</span>

• <span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;">Sacred Lotus</span></span><span style="color: #18a085;"><span style="color: #000000;"> (Nelumbo nucifera) - beyond being a very pretty flower, loti have edible rhizomes and have long been subjects of human agriculture. Lotus spawns in small amounts throughout the world in appropriate climates, offering a source of decorative flowers and a one-time offer of lotus roots. If Paddy Fields is active, they may be farmed as a crop (P). Lotus does not spawn as a usual crop, its seeds having to either be purchased from an agriculture trader or obtained from wild-spawning loti flowers with a knife. Surprisingly versatile in tolerated climates, lotus is also a rather low-nutrient demand crop - something of a turnip of the paddies. Excellent for rotation with rice or taro, but will not grow on non-flooded farmland.</span></span>
• <span style="color: #000000;">Yellow Lotus&nbsp;</span><span style="color: #000000;">(Nelumbo lutea) - the only other extant lotus species, the yellow or american lotus can be found in the world as a flower to collect in small patches. It also gives edible rhizomes when first foraged wild, but otherwise serves only as a decorative plant. Feel free to put either of the loti in pots or planters - it works!</span>
• <span style="color: #000000;">Water Caltrops (Trapa sp.) - a widespread Old World aquatic plant, water caltrops offer a source of vegetable forage in your worlds. Their fruits must be roasted before being eaten, but function as a basic vegetable. If Paddy Fields is active, you might get seeds from wild caltrops allowing you to farm them (K). Though yields are not high and it isn't a versatile food choice, they grow quickly and at little cost to the soil.</span>
