Zero Loss Charcoal
A modern, fully rewritten continuation of NoCharcoalLost — with industrial-scale support.
Description
Charcoal pits in Vintage Story intentionally burn firewood unevenly for realism. Depending on how the final charcoal pile blocks settle, part of the material can be lost.
This mod completely removes that randomness.
When a charcoal pit finishes burning, the game handles the entire process normally. Only after the conversion is complete, the mod scans the resulting structure and upgrades each charcoal column to the maximum possible yield.
No matter how the pit burned, the final output is always optimal.
The mod does not interfere with ignition, burn time, sealing logic, or internal game mechanics — it only improves the final result.
Perfect for:
-
survival servers
-
industrial automation
-
large-scale charcoal farms
-
anyone who hates waste
Configuration
ZeroLossCharcoalConfig.json (optional)
<pre>{ "MaxPileHeight": 8 }</pre>
Controls the maximum height of the charcoal pile after conversion.
Values above 8 require modified charcoal pile blocks.
Important notes
-
A separate build for Vintage Story 1.20 is available in the GitHub releases.
-
The base game does not handle some custom firewood blocks from other mods very well.
Compatibility with such blocks cannot be guaranteed. -
When using vanilla firewood, the mod works as intended.
-
Only affects connected charcoal blocks.
-
No fixed radius — supports large and irregular pit layouts.
Why this mod exists
The original NoCharcoalLost concept was great but is no longer maintained.
This is a modern reimplementation: new code, same goal, designed for active servers and long-term play.
