Chest Placeholders

Ever been annoyed by Quick Stack only working when you still have at least 1 item left of it? No longer!

With this mod every chest remembers the item types it has held. Quick Stack then also stores items the camp has run out of, into the chest that remembers them.

How it works

• chests take note whenever their content changes, whether by you or by your pals
• placeholders keep their slot
• an empty placeholder slot is reserved: it only takes its own item, from you and from your pals
• quick stack as usual. Items the camp still has are handled by the game, the rest goes to its remembered chest.
• placeholder-slots are marked with a frame and empty slots display a ghost item on its rarity background
• only stackable items get a placeholder on their own

Managing placeholders

• hover a slot and press the placeholder key (default middle mouse button) to remove or restore its placeholder
• on an empty slot the key opens a picker: search, category list and toggles for the chest's filter, known items and stackable only. Items you hold a schematic for count as known.
• an item can hold several slots of a chest: pick it for more empty slots, or press the key on a further stack of it. Each of these slots stays reserved for the item while it is empty.
• rarities and upgrade levels (+1, +2 …) of an item share one tile, with a small button per variant
• flip pages with Q/E or LT/RT
• ghost placeholders can be moved: click one to pick it up, click an empty slot to drop it or another ghost to swap
• sorting a chest puts ghost placeholders where their item would be
• the button next to "Chest Settings" clears all placeholders of the chest
• the red button left of it clears the placeholders of every chest in the world. It asks before it does, and only the host and singleplayer see it.

Before you remove the mod

Remove all placeholders before you unsubscribe. Reserved slots are stored in the game's own save. Without the mod nothing frees them, and they keep refusing every other item.

• open any chest, press the red button left of "Chest Settings" and confirm. Every chest forgets its placeholders and all reserved slots are free again.
• leave the world so the game saves it, then remove the mod
• on a dedicated server there is no red button: set ReserveSlots = false in Scripts/config.lua, start the server and join once

Mod already gone and slots still reserved? Dismantle the chest and build it again, the new chest has no reserved slots. The guild chest keeps its storage when you rebuild it: install the mod once more and use the red button.

Multiplayer

The placeholder list belongs to the world. The host (or the dedicated server) keeps it, and every player sees the same placeholders. Install the mod on the host and on every player who joins.

Configuration

Optional. With the Better Mod Manager installed, keys and options can be changed in-game in the "Mods" tab. Without it, edit Scripts/config.lua inside the mod folder. Every field is documented in the file.

Notes

The placeholders are kept in a file of their own per world, next to the game's save games (SaveGames/ChestPlaceholders_<world>.lua on the host). Reserved slots are the one thing the game stores in its own save.
