Restore mid-distance and distant scenery missing because of overlapping map layers in Project Viewpoint, reconnecting gaps in the ground, roads and surroundings of custom maps.

For Project Zomboid Build 42.21. Requires Project Viewpoint and ZombieBuddy.

Before / After Comparison

Before: missing mid-distance and distant terrain

After: terrain, roads and trees restored

Does the map look normal nearby, but disappear in large patches farther away? When a mod covers only part of a map cell, Viewpoint can miss content supplied by the vanilla map or a lower-priority map in that same cell.

This mod combines the map layers in the game’s loading order, filling the omitted areas while preserving the higher-priority custom map’s buildings and terrain. It applies to bunkers, local building additions and other maps affected by this kind of overlap.

  • Keeps your rendering settings: view distance, tree detail and building detail remain controlled by Viewpoint.
  • Works automatically: no additional configuration and no extension of Viewpoint’s distant loading range.
  • Preserves maps and saves: original map files and saved world chunks are not rewritten.

  • Install and enable ZombieBuddy and Project Viewpoint according to their own instructions.
  • Enable this mod in the mod list for the save you want to use.
  • Fully exit and restart the game after installing, updating, enabling or disabling this mod. Returning to the main menu, reloading Lua or reloading a save is not enough.

There is no additional settings panel. Once in the world, revisit a location where the gaps appeared. The first encounter with an overlapping cell requires temporary data to be built; the cost depends on the maps and hardware.

  • Scope: fixes missing scenery caused by incomplete reading of overlapping map layers. Gaps or shader problems with other causes need separate investigation.
  • Dependency versions: requires a compatible Viewpoint version. If the fix stops working after a dependency update, check the game log for [PV Map Fix] messages.
  • Multiplayer: this is a client-side fix with no single-player-only restriction in its code. Multiplayer behaviour and the exact loading setup have not been tested. Follow the dependencies’ installation requirements.
