Bring depth and seasonal life to forests in Project Viewpoint: three-dimensional branches and crowns, foliage that sways with the wind, falling autumn leaves, and a thin layer of snow that builds up and melts with the world.
For Project Zomboid Build 42.21. Requires Project Viewpoint and ZombieBuddy.
Covers all 11 vanilla tree species, each with three shape variants. Position-based shape and rotation give stands of the same species more variety while staying consistent. Vanilla growth sizes are supported.
Three red maple variants at the same scale and orientation.
Replaces nearby trees only. Bushes retain rendering provided by Viewpoint or other mods, and Viewpoint’s distant-tree renderer is not replaced. Original game objects continue to handle chopping and collision.
- Medium (default): the standard leaf-cluster count.
- High: approximately 20% more actual leaf clusters to fill out the crown.
Leaves and branches follow the game’s wind direction and strength. Gentle movement in calm or light wind becomes stronger and faster in high winds, with smooth transitions as the weather changes.
Deciduous trees follow vanilla spring, summer, autumn and leafless states, with species-specific foliage colours. Pine, hemlock and holly retain their evergreen character.
Autumn falling leaves
When nearby deciduous trees enter their autumn foliage state, a few leaves tumble down and drift with the wind. Evergreens and trees that are already leafless do not emit falling leaves.
A thin layer of snow settles on upward-facing crown and branch surfaces. Undersides retain their foliage colour, and vertical trunks largely keep their bark appearance. Supported vanilla trees retain their 3D models in snow.
Coverage follows the game’s accumulated snow, rather than simply whether snow is falling. A few early flakes may not whiten the trees immediately, and cover can remain after snowfall stops until the snow melts. This mod does not change the weather or create ground snow.
- Install and enable ZombieBuddy and Project Viewpoint according to their own instructions.
- Enable this mod. Load order: ZombieBuddy → Project Viewpoint → Project Viewpoint: TREE in 3D.
- Fully exit and restart the game after installing, updating, enabling or disabling this mod. Reloading Lua or returning to the main menu is not enough.
In-game settings
Open Options → Mods → Project Viewpoint: TREE in 3D
- Leaf density: Medium (default) / High.
- Leaf sway: enabled by default.
- Autumn falling leaves: enabled by default.
- Tree snow: enabled by default.
All of these options can be applied in game without restarting, and your choices are saved. Falling leaves and tree snow still require the corresponding seasonal or snow conditions.
- Performance: cost depends on hardware, forest density, camera view and other mods. Start with Medium. Falling leaves and tree snow can be disabled independently; zero FPS impact is not promised.
- Other tree replacements: tree models already registered by another mod are respected. Unknown or blended attached layers and unrecognized snow resources keep their original appearance.
- Rendering compatibility: sway, falling leaves and snow require a compatible rendering pipeline. Unrecognized shader versions disable the corresponding effect.
- Snow scope: thin snow on tree surfaces, without thick snow geometry, character or vehicle snow, footprints or tire tracks.
- Multiplayer and mod combinations: individual setups still require verification. Follow the dependencies’ requirements; compatibility with every combination is not claimed.
