Long Range Ore Detector

A large grid ore detector that finds deposits up to 10 km away instead of 150 m. Great for prospecting an asteroid field or a planet's crust without hunting for hours.

How it works

  • Set the range in the block's terminal, from 150 m to 10 km.
  • Press "Lancer le scan" (Start scan): the detector analyzes asteroids and planets in range.
  • Deposits show up as orange GPS markers, visible only to the player who started the scan.
  • Markers stay even if you turn the block off, until the next scan.

Power

  • Idle, it draws the same as a vanilla ore detector (2 kW).
  • While scanning, it requires a peak of 1.5 MW per km of range (15 MW at 10 km) for at least 3 seconds.
  • If your grid can't deliver that peak, the scan fails: bring enough batteries or reactors.

Tip: turn it on, scan, then turn it off.

Accuracy

Resolution drops with distance: at short range you'll see veins, at 10 km you'll spot deposits. Nearby samples are grouped into one marker (60 markers max per scan).

Build

Large grid only, category "Détection longue portée". 50 steel plates, 40 construction components, 50 computers, 40 detector components, 5 motors.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer and dedicated server compatible: the server runs the scan and checks power. Only the block owner and faction members can configure it and start a scan.

Performance

Scanning is spread over several frames to avoid lag; a 10 km scan can take a few seconds. Progress is shown in the block's terminal.

The in-game texts are in French only. The mod reuses the vanilla ore detector model. If you remove it from a world, existing long range detectors will disappear.
