Planets hand authored by Andreyy4124 available on your next reseed or new game

Procedural Systems generates a complete solar system from your world seed, once, on first load. Planets, moons, belts and rings, before you leave spawn.

Support and bug reports: discord.gg/e6dnBMQmpR

How generation works

One seed gives the same system on any machine, and the layout is stored, not recomputed.

Defaults: 13-16 planets, 60-120 km across, up to 2 moons each and 2 belts of 40-90 rocks. Rings roll at 25% on a world 95 km or larger. Orbits strictly increase, 30 km of clearance.

A seed rolls one of eight system shapes first, then a system to match.

Up to five star systems in one save

SystemCount builds separate systems in one world, each with its own star, planets and belts, at least 20,000 km apart.

It works around planets you already have

Every planet already in the world is found first and the system laid out around it. Anything that cannot be placed clear is dropped, never buried in another mod's terrain. Add a planet mod later and doctor reports the overlap instead of pulling ground from under you.

21 custom planet archetypes

Each ships its own heightmaps and material maps and inherits physics from a stock parent:

 • Continental, Archipelago, Tundra, Quagi, Terminator, Highland - EarthLike
 • Canyon, Mesa - Mars, Dunes, Shattered - Pertam
 • Cratered, Basin, Cinder, Seam - Moon, Volcanic, Spire - Alien
 • Glacial, Fissure - Europa, Methane - Titan, Rift, Floe - Triton

Terminator is tidally locked: scorched day side, ice over the night, a living band between. Spire is a stone forest of towers.

Each world states its hazards. Cinder, Glacial and Fissure are radiated at the stock Europa's strength; shelter is the only answer. Terminator, Spire and Methane keep a weather that never ends. Airless bodies give no cover from the star.

Four new moons, and fewer repeats

Cinder is Io: volcanic pits and no ice at all, the moon you cannot refuel at. Seam is Iapetus, ridged round its equator. Fissure is Enceladus, ice cut by four fractures. Floe is Pluto's nitrogen plain, tessellated into polygons.

Variety is on by default, moons included: a repeated type is re-rolled, so a system averages 1.4 duplicate worlds instead of 4.9. Types only; position, size and orbit are unmoved.

PlanetLab: build your own worlds

The mod ships the program these planets were made with: pick a terrain function, set a seed, bend it with nine controls, and out comes a finished planet mod in your Mods folder.

Procedural Systems then finds it on load and pools it with the rest, no config editing. It measures what you built against Keen's own eight planets, and says so when nobody could land on it. Windows, macOS or Linux.

PlanetSculpt: carve one by hand

New, and in the same folder. PlanetLab grows a world from a seed; PlanetSculpt lets you change it. Open the six maps a planet is made of, raise a ridge, cut a valley, rim a crater, then run seven kinds of erosion over it a stroke at a time: rivers, ice, wind, waves, scree, karst, landslides.

Eleven brushes, nine tip shapes, and layers, so the world underneath survives your strokes. A stroke crosses a cube edge, or the corner where three faces meet, without a seam. Run PlanetSculpt.cmd beside PlanetLab.

Stock planets are off by default

A fresh system is built from those twenty-one and nothing else, unless you set IncludeStockPlanets. The Vanilla Edition ships it on.

Ore you can actually find

All twenty-one declare their own ore mappings, so two worlds from one parent yield different materials.

Deposit density matches Keen's own maps: about 5,450 per cube face on an EarthLike world, 560 on a moon.

Scarcity is deliberate: Uranium is on two archetypes, Glacial and Rift, and only deep. Tundra has no gold. Five worlds have no surface ice. Platinum is on 11 of the 21. Every archetype has iron and silicon within 11 m.

Surface materials are latitude-banded, with cliff rules by slope, across all 126 maps.

System map on any LCD

Pick Procedural Systems Map on any LCD, cockpit or console. No programmable block.

It draws the star, every orbit, belts and rings, planets coloured to their GPS markers, other mods' planets hollow and grey, with type, diameter, orbit, tilt, range and ore in the panel.

Aim it from the block's controls or its Custom Data (Body, Zoom, Cycle). ShowFaction=on draws your faction, filtered server-side. With TouchScreenAPI it is touchable: drag, tap, zoom.

Captured asteroids

Some planets keep steeply tilted rocks as well as moons: voxel asteroids up to 19 km, sometimes a binary pair.

Day cycles

Worlds that rotate get a day of 16-90 minutes, moons slower than their parent; inner orbits can tidally lock.

Water, methane and lava

Continental, Archipelago and Methane ship a sea, Volcanic ships lava, placed as the planet spawns.

The methane sea is a real Titan sea: 529 kg/m3, half the lift of water, under dark amber fog. Lava is basalt melt at 2,600 kg/m3 and burns: contact kills in under a second.

/procsys water 45
sets sea level by coverage on any planet. Needs the Water Mod, not a dependency.

On joining, chat names the best body to start on and why: air, ice, the starter ores, gravity, and what to mind.
/procsys start
