SKP Shield Array
A single-block energy shield that runs on your grid's own power. No fuel, no shield generators, no separate modules. Place one SKP Shield block (large or small grid), give it power, and the ship is covered.
How it works
- Power is capacity. A Power allocation slider (1-100%) tells the block what share of the grid's total generator output to draw. Every watt it actually receives becomes shield HP: 30 MW of allocation gives 3,000,000 HP. Build more reactors, get a bigger shield. - Three layers. The HP pool is split into outer, middle and inner layers. Hits drain the outer layer first; recharge refills from the inside out. Only the outermost intact layer is drawn, and it fades from your chosen color toward red as it weakens, so you can read the shield's health at a glance. - Recharge. Any absorbed hit pauses recharge for 20 seconds. After that the shield refills at a flat rate set by its power supply. If HP reaches zero the shield drops entirely and stays down until it has recovered to 25%. - Two shield types. Bubble draws an ellipsoid fitted to the ship's shape and stops bullets, shells, railgun sabots and rockets at the surface before they reach the hull. Your own weapons fire out through it freely. Scaled skin has no bubble: the shield hugs every exposed block face of the hull, soaking damage as it lands and flashing where you were hit. Good for docking, tight builds and ships that want to keep their silhouette. - Grinding still works. Grinder damage ignores the shield, so you can always repair and salvage your own ship.
Customisation
The terminal gives you a Shield type dropdown, 18 textures (all 17 vanilla safe-zone patterns plus the mod's own layered set), Red / Green / Blue / Alpha sliders, and Size X / Y / Z sliders (50-300%) to stretch or shrink the bubble on each axis. The block also keeps the two LCD surfaces from the Programmable Block it is based on. All settings are saved with the world and synced to every player.
WeaponCore
WeaponCore hits are absorbed at the hull through the standard damage path. The mod also publishes the shield API that WeaponCore has a built-in client for, so weapon packs' shield damage and passthrough modifiers apply once WeaponCore recognises it.
Notes
- One shield block protects its own grid only. Subgrids need their own block. - Server-authoritative: all damage and HP maths run on the server, clients only draw. - Live HP, layer status, power draw and recharge countdown show in the block's detailed info. - This was made with the help of Claude.
