History
The United Nations Comso Force Line Battleship was a variant of the Dreadnought class designed during the Gatlantis war. The main difference was the removal of the rear turret, making the ship slightly smaller and cheaper to produce, while maintaining its forwards firing firepower, which would theoretically have made the battleship a better fit for the mass-produced fleet formations fielded during that war.
However, very few of the ships were finished before the war ended, and the postwar period demanded fewer but more versatile ships. The production line was cut, and the remaining battleships were mostly assigned to the protection of the Solar system.
Ship details
The battleship´s main battery consists of a twin railgun setup within its bow and two superfiring triple artillery turrets on its main deck. The secondary battery backs it up with four laterally mounted assault turrets, and the AA armament consists of a mix of gatling and interior turrets spread across the ship, concentrated in the rear arcs. The battleship has a somewhat cramped hangar located amidships, which could fit up to two craft.
Like all Cosmo Navy ships, the ship is perfectly capable of atmospheric flight and can operate as a sea going vessel, although it would be outmatched in either of these by specialized vessels, so it’s not recommended to engage in planetary conditions. The ship has enough fuel for around 30 minutes of flying in 1G.
One can safely land on water while travelling at max speed, as long as vertical speed isn’t too high. Once the ship touches the surface, it is safe to turn off the up thrust (Toolbar 3-1), allowing the ship to naturally settle on its waterline. An event controller automatically closes the railgun chamber doors when this is done, which is required for the ship to float level.
For takeoff from water, the preferred method involves reaching max speed on surface (around 50m/s), turn on the up thrust, and push the bow up. There seems to be a sort of suction effect while doing this, so it takes a few seconds to push the ship out of the water. The Andromeda march should also be played during takeoff, its the law.
Notes
As many might already be aware of, turrets tend to love targeting subgrids above all else, usually making custom turrets a bad idea. However, the relatively high maneuverability this ship has makes it possible for a skilled pilot to dodge most shots.
