About DogHaus Valheim
From ThunderstoreThe DogHaus Valheim modpack: vanilla-plus building, seasons with a real winter, Balrond and Odin building sets, raids, quality of life. Everything you need to join the DogHaus server; optional client-side mods are in DogHaus Extras.
DogHaus Valheim
The modpack the DogHaus Valheim server runs: vanilla-plus building, seasons with a real winter, Balrond and Odin building sets, raids with more variety, and a pile of quality-of-life fixes. It includes the server's config files, so installing the pack gives you exactly the settings the server uses.
Install
- Install r2modman (or Thunderstore Mod Manager) and pick Valheim.
- Create a new profile, search the Online tab for DogHaus Valheim, and install it. Everything below comes with it.
- Start the game with Start modded.
Updating: update only the DogHaus Valheim row - never "Update all". The server checks every mod the pack installs when you join; if it refuses you with "Incompatible version" or a list of mods, update the DogHaus Valheim row and try again. Gameplay numbers come from the server when you join, so most balance changes never need a pack update. To get the optional client mods, install DogHaus Extras (below).
Since 3.0.10 the pack no longer ships MassFarming or Server devcommands - you may uninstall them (harmless if you don't).
Optional extras (since 3.3.2): the client-side-only mods are now in their own pack, DogHaus Extras. That covers Quick Stack / Sort / Trash / Restock, ZenUI, AdvancedTerrainModifiers, DiscoveryPins and BetterArchery, plus Music Overhaul, the DogHaus Ambience sounds and DogHaus Client Tweaks (sundial, building health, piece stats and comfort in the build menu, passenger zoom, build search by mod, auto-repair at crafting stations and the world grid on J - each with its own on/off switch). Install it next to this pack if you want them. You don't need any of them to join, and you can turn any single one off on its row in r2modman. If you already had them from an older version, r2modman keeps them installed. Install DogHaus Extras to keep getting their settings and updates, or switch their rows off.
Highlights
- Seasons with 20-day seasons and a winter that bites: long cold, wet clothes and the dead of night can freeze you.
Shelter with a fire, a placed torch, or frost gear keeps you safe. In winter you only rest under a roof with a fire. Snow is dry and rain is wet: falling snow never makes you Wet or puts a torch out. Meat drops follow the seasons.
- Building: Balrond Constructions, Furniture Reborn, Shipyard, Hearth Marks, Lightkeeper; Odin's Kingdom, Architect
and Food Barrels; CoreWood Pieces, FineWood Build Pieces and Missing Pieces (core-wood and fine-wood walls, roofs, windows, fences and drawbridges; triangle roofs and floors, ramps, half walls) - all on the vanilla hammer's own tabs (DogHausTweaks puts the Odin sets there), with costs and health balanced to vanilla. Crafting stations reach 25% farther. A Lightkeeper keeps every light in its range fuelled from one shared store.
- Terrain: ground has health, bedrock at 12 m, creature craters, and a hoe full of tools - level (small, 4x4, 8x8), raise, smooth
(round, square), paths and roads, reset and restore ground (1/2/4/8 m squares); Lower ground and pools of real water are admin-only (spawned Bronze hoe). Tools cost stone, flint or dandelions by brush size; deeper digs give more stone; an optional world grid (J) that also snaps seeds is in DogHaus Extras.
- Ships and sea: a heavy hold slows and leans the ship (the helm shows your load); storms pound ships and push empty,
unanchored boats out to sea; running into rock, ice or shore hurts; serpents hunt at night and in storms; nights on deck are wet and cold (only cold while snow falls); icebergs and a frozen sea in winter.
- Fire: only enemies can set your buildings alight, and only after the Elder - at the game's own speed, a limited number of pieces per attack. A
hammer repair swing or rain puts it out. Chests, crafting stations and smelters never burn.
- Creatures and bosses: starred creatures drop rarer trophies, not more hide; bosses are tougher (+25%, and +30% per
extra player nearby).
- Armor and item stands open like chests (E); Y at an armor stand swaps your armor (Runic Display Stands).
- Raids: about a third vanilla, the rest new mixed-biome, weather, night and seasonal raids, with Charred, Jotun and
Elaking raids late in the game. Raids come about once an hour while you are at a base; leftover raiders stay nearby and keep hunting (they see three times farther, up to 200 m). Two raids can run at once if their bases are at least 300 m apart.
- Snow: builds up on roofs through winter, peaks late, thaws before spring; sweep it off with the hammer.
- Weapon sets and maps: keep a second weapon set on your back and swap with R; a craftable Map, and an optional switch that
makes the map work only while you carry one. A Black metal cultivator plants seeds 4x4.
- Server commands:
announce, give, summon, skipseasonfor admins, from the game or the server console.
Controls
Keys the pack adds, in one place: keyboard, and the controller buttons for the same thing (Xbox names, the game's Default controller layout; "-" = no controller button). Keyboard keys can be changed in Settings > Controls (DogHaus, under the game's own keys). The same list is in game: open the Compendium from the inventory screen and pick DogHaus: Controls (with a controller in use it shows your controller's own button pictures). Rows marked (Extras) or (DogHaus Extras) only work with the optional DogHaus Extras pack installed.
