3D Windows for Viewpoint

In first person, Project Viewpoint shows the windows as a flat picture in the wall. This mod replaces them with real 3D windows, set into the wall and seen from both sides.

Almost every window of the base game is in now: double-hung windows (white, wood and metal, tall and arched ones included), the large white, wood and metal windows (plain and tall), the small ones, wide fixed windows, sliding windows, arched windows, round arched and corner windows, storefronts and branded shop fronts, sliding glass doors, church windows and motel windows. Each one comes in every state: closed, open where it opens, smashed with 3D shards, and without glass. That makes 753 window tiles.

New: window trims and porch columns

Some houses have extra trims around their double-hung windows (arched pediments and flat casings). They used to show as a flat picture next to the 3D window, giving a doubled, offset frame. They are now real 3D trims that line up with the window. Thanks to Ausity and Bullseye for the report. Porch columns are in 3D too: the fluted church columns, the Doric columns with their capitals, the round posts, the moulded beam under balconies and the entrance canopy. The big columns now block movement like a real pillar (in multiplayer, when the server runs the mod).

Shop fronts, patio doors, churches and the motel

The shop fronts of Spiffo's, Greene's, the diners, Seahorse, Fossoil and Gas2Go, with their printed stripes and checks kept and worn. The sliding glass patio doors. The church windows: the stone gothic ones with their tracery carved in 3D and stained glass held by lead cames, the leaded wood windows, and the tall lancets of the small church over two floors. And the Sunstar motel windows. Church glass is lightly see-through.

Round arched and corner windows

The white, wood and metal windows with a full round top are in, short and tall, along with the corner windows that wrap around the corner of a house: one half on each wall, meeting at a corner post like in the base game. The arched casing sits flush on the brick, and the fanlight glass fills the whole arch.

Fixed: multiplayer

Some players saw no 3D windows at all, mostly on servers. The windows now load from the main menu, so they also work on a server that does not run the mod: subscribe, tick it in the main menu Mods list, then join. Thanks to everyone who reported it.

Small windows

The small white, wood and metal windows are in: the ribbon of three small panes that runs across a wall, and the round window, set in a painted wood panel. Same frame, sill and worn paint as the other windows on the house.

Fixed: tall windows

The tall white, wood and metal windows now fill their real opening, down to the floor for the tallest ones, and windows stacked on two floors meet cleanly. Thanks to Ausity and Tungsten Ore for the screenshots.

Large windows

The big white, wood and metal windows you see on houses and offices are in, plain and tall, with the same frame, sill and worn paint as the double-hung ones next to them.

Winter

In winter the game swaps every window for a snowy version. Those are covered too (522 tiles), with real 3D snow piled on the sills and rails, the same on every window. The glass also follows the base game now: wherever the vanilla window has glass, the 3D one has glass, so a smashed window looks like what you can actually climb through.

Good to know

  • Visual only, no gameplay code. You can add or remove it on an existing save.
  • Client side. In multiplayer it also works on a server that does not run it: subscribe, tick it in the main menu Mods list, then join. If the server runs it, nothing else to do.
  • Sizes, colours and glazing bars are taken from the game's own window pictures.

Requirements

Project Viewpoint, Build 42

If a window looks wrong somewhere, or you find one still flat (a gap with the wall, a floating piece, missing glass), leave a comment with a screenshot and roughly where it is, and I'll fix it.

If you like it, a thumbs up helps other players find it.
